Lafourche Parish, La.- Police have charged 35-year-old David Brown with three counts of first degree murder in the deaths of a Lockport mother and her two children.

Officials say Brown has also been charged with attempted murder, aggravated rape and aggravated arson in the incident and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center Wednesday morning.

Investigators discovered that during the early morning hours of November 4, 2012, Brown entered the Nieves' apartment and went upstairs armed with a knife.  Detectives believe Brown then entered a bedroom and sexually assaulted two of the victims before stabbing all three victims several times.

It is believed that Brown then set the apartment on fire and fled the scene.

The investigation also revealed that Carlos Nieveshad been asleep downstairs in the apartment during the entire incident and when he awoke, he called the authorities saying his  home was on fire.

When investigators arrived on the scene, they discovered his wife, 29-year-old Jacqueline Nieves and their two daughters, 7-year-old Gabriela Nieves and 20-month-old Izabela Nieves dead from stab wounds.

Brown has previously been arrested 28 time and is currently being held on a $3.31 million bond.
