State police investigating St. John deputy involved shooting

Laplace, La. - A Louisiana State Police spokesperson says troopers are investigating a shooting involving a St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Deputy and a 60-year-old woman in LaPlace.

Melissa Matey says sometime over night, one sheriff's deputy was involved in the shooting with 60-year-old Barbara Lassere of Boutte in the 200 block of West 2nd Street.

Police say the deputy pulled Lassere over at an unknown location for driving without her headlights when Lassere pulled out a weapon, fled in her vehicle to the home on West 2nd Street and fired once at deputies.

Deputies then returned fire, striking and killing Lassere.

Investigators have not yet released the relationship between Lassere and the owner of the home.

Matey says the deputy wasn't injured.
