New Orleans, La. -
Police are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and another wounded in the St. Anthony area of Gentilly.
It happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Rapides Street.
"The two men were walking in the block when they were approached by an unknown African-American male who opened fire striking both men multiple times," reads a press release from NOPD. "The 22-year-old man collapsed on the scene and the 20-year-old man ran to a house in the 5300 block of Wilton Street. Both victims were transported to the hospital where the 22-year-old man later died. The 20-year-old man is currently in surgery and his condition is unknown at this time."
Police are withholding the victims' identities until they notify their families.
This was the latest of four shootings that took place across the city since around 5:00 Friday evening:
- A 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound in the mid-section early in the evening in the 2500 Block of Dreux Ave. Police say his wound does not appear to be life-threatening.
- A 16-year-old boy was wounded in his hip by a shooting in the 1200 block of Merrill St., Algiers.
- Another shooting, around 7:00 p.m. at Newton and Thayer in the Algiers area, left a male victim wounded in his face, an arm and a leg.
We have no updates on the medical conditions of the remaining three victims in these incidents.
