Person of interest named in brutal French Quarter robbery


New Orleans, La.- Police are looking for 31-year-old Maurice Charles, who may critical information in a French Quarter attack where a man was robbed as he walked near Bourbon Street Tuesday.

It happened around 5:25 a.m., when the victim left his hotel to take a walk around the French Quarter and as he crossed over to Bourbon Street, he was approached by a transgendered male.

The suspected transgendered male tried to strike up a conversation when the victim realized he was being pick pocketed by the suspect.

Investigators say the two then approached the intersection of Conti and Chartres Street, when two other suspects appeared and started attacking the victim, taking his wallet and money.  

The suspects made off with the victim's property.

The victim was not able to determine if the other suspects were male or female. He sustained minor injuries in the attack. 

Police describe the suspect as a transgendered African American male, 5'07" to 6'00" tall, in his mid-20's to early 30's.
