One dead, one injured in block party shooting Saturday

New Orleans, La - Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

The incident took place in the 1800 block Conti Street around 8:35 p.m. Saturday when officers observed an extremely large crowd and heard loud music in what later was determined an illegal block party.

The officers entered the block to investigate at which time someone in the crowd began shooting.  As the large crowd was disbursing during the shooting, officers observed a 21-year-old man lying in the street shot to the head and body, as well as an unidentified man shot to the neck.

Officers were unable to determine who the suspect(s) were.

Police say the 21-year-old man, who died on the scene, was wearing an ankle monitoring device.

The unidentified man, who was shot to the neck, was  transported to the hospital and taken into surgery.

The identities have yet to be released.

Anyone with any information on this shooting is urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 822-1111.
