Football fans arrive in New Orleans ahead of next week's Super Bowl

New Orleans, La - The Super Bowl is one week away and fans of both teams are already in New Orleans.

The French Quarter is alive with activity on the Sunday before the Super Bowl. As tourists mill about, crews put the finishing touches on stages, sound systems and lights. Plenty of 49ers and Ravens fans have already made their way to New Orleans and are ready for the big game. Angela Peralta, a 49ers fan from California says, "I am so excited, so excited. I can't believe's awesome."

The people who are already in town for Super Bowl also get a taste of Mardi Gras with parades happening all weekend long. Lilly Callahan, a Ravens fan in town from Baltimore says, "It's great. I've never been here for any type of Mardi Gras either so this has been awesome, the parades."

Terry Lazarus and Mary Stoler are from Pennsylvania and are staying in town for both Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. They already planned to come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras but decided to come a little earlier this year because of the Super Bowl. Little did they know, their team would wind up playing in the championship game.

"We're Ravens fans so we bought our tickets about a year ago because we always come down this time of year for Mardi Gras but we didn't know we'd be in the Super Bowl so this is beyond our wildest dreams that the Ravens would actually go to the Super Bowl, so we're very psyched," Lazarus said.

Lazarus and Stoler are staying at the French Quarter RV Resort, which employees say is already booked solid the next two weekends. The same can be said for most hotels in the city.

And with so many people coming to New Orleans for the first time, locals we talked to, say it's important the city makes a good impression. "We'll make sure they have a good time here in New Orleans," Bruce Thompson said. His wife, Linda, added, "New Orleans is a great place to be right now for a lot of reasons."

And one of those reasons, is only one week away in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
