Fire at Harahan substation causes power outage

Updated:
Harahan, La. -

A fire at an Entergy substation in Harahan has left thousands of people without power.

The Jefferson Parish Fire Department says it received a call around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday that the main transformer at the power plant was "arcing," causing the fire.   Entergy shut off power transmission to the facility as firefighters put out the blaze.

"Power has been rerouted and all customers affected by the earlier outage due to the Harahan substation switch fire have had power restored," reads a message on Twitter by Entergy Louisiana, which said about 16,000 customers lost power for a short time Tuesday evening.

Authorities in Jefferson Parish have not reported any injuries from the fire.  It remains under investigation.
