New Orleans, La. – New Orleans police say leave your guns at home this carnival season. Officers aggressively targeting weapons along the uptown parade route made seven arrests over the January 25th weekend.

Supt. Ronal Serpas says, "Our message is if you feel like you need to bring a gun to a parade route, be prepared to go to jail because we'll find you and we're going to take you and it is a zero sum proposition. You're going to jail."

Serpas says the department has asked officers to go out and look for guns along the parade routes.

According to information on NOPD online crime maps, officers arrested five people with guns near St. Charles and Erato. That is the same spot where shots rang out during last year's Knights of Chaos parade. In that incident, nearby detectives who heard the gunshots spotted two teenagers with minor injuries and quickly arrested another teenager who tried to run from the scene.
