As more signs of Super Bowl 47 goes up outside the Mercedes Superdome, one of the co-chairs of the Super Bowl host committee works on the next item on the long list to prepare New Orleans for the big game. The well known Republican political strategist Mary Matalin and her husband Democrat strategist James Carville serve as the co-chairs for the committee.
"There are only two cities that have had ten Super Bowls. We're going to make it a perfect 10 which will launch us to the next ten," said Matalin. She says what makes her most proud are the technological cell phone apps which local software developers created to enhance the visitors trip to New Orleans. "They'll be able to have an app to tell how long the bathroom wait is and where to park in real time or which restaurants are full," said Matalin. The apps will provide quick accurate information on just about everything related to the big game .
She points to the local software developers creation of the apps as another example of the city's depth of talent on display for the world. The Super Bowl organizer calls the game an opportunity to showcase the great New Orleans story. Matalin is very familiar with the city. She says she fell in love with the city long before she and her husband and her kids moved here almost five years ago. " I love the way the air feels, how it smells, the sounds of the church bells, the street car and the violin player in the park and the French Quarter, " said Matalin.
" The people are so unique, adventurous and organic and innovative and they have an attitude. It's the last real eccentric place," added Matalin on what makes New Orleans special.
City officials expected at least 150 thousand people to travel here for the game. Matalin and the other organizers behind the scenes now hope the international spotlight on New Orleans will lead to the hosting of more Super Bowls and similar large events in the future.
