LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A Lafayette business owner who took two workers and a child hostage briefly in his smoothie store was arrested after holding officers at bay for nearly two hours.
The Advertiser reports Tai Nguyen, owner of Smoothie World and Ice Cream, had threatened on Facebook to commit "Samurai suicide" by disemboweling himself with three large knives he had inside the store.
He was arrested just before 10 p.m. Thursday after a brief struggle with deputies.
Capt. Kip Judice, a spokesman for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, says Nguyen was taken to the University Medical Center to be treated for a minor injury and to undergo a mental evaluation.
