Body found after fire at abandoned house

New Orleans, La. -

Police and fire authorities are investigating the death of a male whose body was found inside the remains of a house fire in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Firefighters responded to the one-alarm fire at N. Claiborne Avenue and Deslonde Street around 7:30 p.m. Monday.  The house appeared to be abandoned at the time, but after NOFD put out the fire, searchers discovered the corpse inside.

Police have yet to identify the victim, simply describing an "unidentified male dead inside."

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will examine the remains and determine the exact cause of death.
