Atlanta, Georgia - No. 1 recruit Robert Nkemdiche made his announcement to attend Ole Miss.

Nkemdiche topped the list of the Class of 2013  prep recruits.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end from Loganville, Ga., has been on  the radar of several programs' including LSU.

LSU made a strong push for the prep star during a recent visit, even setting up a meeting with Shaquille O'Neal.

He joins his brother Denzel Nkemdiche at Ole Miss, who led the defense with 82 tackles, including 13 for a loss last season.

The family connection proved to be an advantage, but the late decision to visit LSU added drama to Wednesday's announcement. Nkemdiche's updates via twitter on his final visit sparked hope for LSU fans.

''LSU pushing man!!!! Getting hard now,'' Nkemdiche tweeted.

In another tweet, he said ''LSU pulling out da facts!!!''

Nkemdiche made a public commitment to Clemson last year but then changed his mind, de-committing in November as Ole Miss again moved to the front of his list.

Wednesday was the first day prep football recruits could officially sign with colleges. Nkemdiche made the announcement in a news conference on ESPNU.

The LSU Tigers will have a chance to see how Nkemdiche is on the field ,when the tigers face Ole Miss, October 19, 2013 in Oxford, MS.
