NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former New Orleans police officer charged with writing a false report on a deadly shooting in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath plans to ask for his retrial to be moved away from New Orleans.
Travis McCabe's retrial on charges stemming from the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Henry Glover is scheduled in start March 11. In a court filing Wednesday, McCabe's attorneys asked a federal judge to postpone the retrial. The defense lawyers say they need more time to prepare, including working on a motion for a change of venue.
McCabe's attorneys say negative publicity from the first trial and other recent police-related prosecutions need to be taken into account. Another former officer, David Warren, faces a separate retrial for fatally shooting Glover before his body was burned in a car.
