Kenner, La. - Less than a week since Super Bowl XLVII visitors left town, workers at the Louis Armstrong International Airport get ready for another surge in passenger traffic.

This time most visitors are coming to enjoy Mardi Gras, and most locals are leaving to hit the slopes or a family vacation. The Friday before Mardi Gras is always busy at the airport. The airport expects to see heavy traffic from Friday, February 7 through Wednesday, February 13.

Passengers who will travel during this holiday are being advised to arrive two hours prior to their scheduled departure time. The airport expects all flights to be at or near capacity throughout the Mardi Gras travel period. According to a news release from the airport, "on peak travel days there are approximately 32,000 daily seats available to the New Orleans market, 16,000 of which are departing."

"Heavy passenger loads are the norm for the Mardi Gras season in New Orleans and this year will be no different. We have been working closely with the TSA and our air carriers to ensure a pleasant travel experience for all who come to enjoy our wonderful culture," stated Director of Aviation Iftikhar Ahmad.

If you're picking up a traveler from the airport, you're encouraged to wait in the cell phone lot at the corner of Hollendey and Airline.
