The body of a dump truck driver who plunged into Lake Pontchartrain Wednesday has been recovered, according to Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou.
The truck driver has been identified as 39 year-old Christopher Sergeant. The body was recovered by the Jefferson Parish water rescue unit.
The accident happend Wednesday around 5:15pm near mile marker five on the Southbound span of the Causeway bridge.
Causeway Police received a call from a driver who said a truck was on fire on the southbound bridge about four and a half miles from the south shore.
The vehicle fell into the water after knocking off parts of the guard rail.
Crews searched for hours to find the driver, but stopped because of weather conditions.
Authorities say it's not clear what caused the accident.
