Marrero, La. - The Jefferson Parish Coroner has determined that a 3-year-old boy, found dead in his Marrero home on Wednesday was either strangled, suffocated or both. So far, it's unknown who killed the child, identified as Desmond Brown, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is offering no new details on the case.

Brown's mother, Lakeshia Brown called 911 Wednesday around 11 am, reporting that her son was dead. When officers arrived at the scene, they had to crawl into the home from a bedroom window because of a locked iron gate on the front door.

Deputies say once inside, they noticed a strong presence of gasoline fumes in the home, as well as two containers of what appeared to be gasoline outside of the home. The JP fire department was dispatched to the scene, but it's unknown if the gas cans had any correlation to the gasoline fumes is the home.

Lakeshia Brown, the child's mother was questioned by investigators. She told them she picked up her son off the floor and realized he wasn't breathing. That's when she called for help. So far, there have been no arrests in the case, but the investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information in this matter is asked to contact the JPSO Homicide Division at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers.
