Tiger baseball claims 1-0 win in season opener

Baton Rouge, La. - The third-ranked LSU baseball team (1-0) held on to post a 1-0 victory over Maryland tonight in the 2013 season opener at Alex Box Stadium.

Sophomore pitcher Aaron Nola threw 6.2 innings, striking out nine to pick up the victory. Senior Chris Cotton pitched the final 1.1 innings to close out the win.

Sophomore leadoff man Chris Sciambra led the way at the plate going 4-4, while freshman Alex Bregman produced the game's lone run with a two-out RBI single in the third inning.

Game two of the weekend series is set for 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
