Bridge City, La.- Police found 81-year-old Doretha Richardson shot to the death on the kitchen floor of her home Friday night after responding to reports of gunfire.
Police say Richardson suffered several gun shot wounds to her body.
It happened around 11:55 p.m. in the 300 block of 5th Street in Bridge City.
Investigators believe the shooter(s) began firing outside of Richardson's home and bullet casings lined the street with a trail leading to Richardson's front door. Several casings were also found inside the home.
Police say there were three other people inside the house, including a three-year-old girl. They were not hurt.
Investigators believe Richardson was caring for the child when the shooting began.
Police haven't determined if Richardson was the intended target and no motives or suspects have been named yet.
