Central City SWAT stand-off ends peacefully

New Orleans, La.- Police say the SWAT Team was called to the 2900 block of Dryades Street Saturday afternoon where a 56-year-old woman barricaded herself and three others inside the home.

It happened around noon when the woman, known to be mentally disabled,  barricaded herself inside her home while armed with a steak knife and a what was later learned to be a toy gun.

Also inside the home was her 23-year-old daughter, 5-year-old grandson and 6-year-old granddaughter.

Through SWAT negotiations, the woman released her daughter and grandchildren through a back door shortly after 1 p.m.

Shortly after, the woman surrendered herself to police without incident around 2 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
