JPSO continue to investigate murder of 81 year old Bridge City woman

Bridge City, La. - An 81-year-old woman is gunned down inside her home. It happened late last night in Bridge City. Jefferson Parish crime scene investigators were back on the scene on Saturday in the 300 block of 5th Street trying to find some answers.

White tape marks the bullet holes on the outside of the home. Inside, investigators searched for clues. The victim's son spent the morning waiting to return to his home after losing his mother.

"I hope police can find who did it. To shoot an 81-year-old woman down like a dog, I hope they find them," said Elsworth Stevenson.

The gunfire broke out shortly before midnight on Friday waking much of the neighborhood. "All of the sudden, I just hear pow pow pow pow pow pow pow," said Tim Jordan.

Jordan and his wife Donna live down the street from the crime scene. "It was like firecrackers going off," said Donna Jordan.

"We came running outside and there were cops galore," added Tim Jordan.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found 81-year-old Doretha Richardson dead on her kitchen floor. She'd been shot multiple times.

"She was a real nice friendly neighbor," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

Deputies say, at the time of the shooting, Richardson was believed to be watching her three-year-old great-granddaughter in her home. Richardson's grandson and his girlfriend were also there, but Richardson was the only one hit by gunfire.

Deputies believe the shooter or shooters began firing from outside the home. Bullet casings lines the street with a trail leading to the front door. Casings were also found inside the home. Investigators haven't determined whether the 81-year old-woman was the intended target.
