After recent attack, local residents pursue self-defense training

New Orleans, La. -- The recent abduction, robbery and rape of a 30-year-old Uptown woman has motivated some women to learn how to react if they were in that type of situation.

The attack happened within five blocks of Cypress Fitness, and owner Cochise Brunet wants all women to learn to protect themselves from violent crime.

Brunet has organized a public awareness campaign about violent crime, and offering self-defense classes.

"We're going to educate people on what law enforcement laws are for the area, how to be aware of your surroundings," says Brunet.

New Orleans Police have arrested 18-year-old Christopher Davis and two minors in connection with the kidnapping and rape.

Cypress Fitness is located at 2701 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans.  You can learn more about Brunet's services online at http://livecypressfitness.com/about_us.

And Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans has much more information about preventing crime at http://crimestoppersgno.org/crime_prevention.php.
