ANGOLA, La. (AP) - The warden of the state penitentiary at Angola says former Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon has been taken to a Baton Rouge hospital suffering stroke-like symptoms.
Warden Burl Cain tells The Advocate the 75-year-old Cannon, who has been director of the prison's dental program for about 15 years, was taken by ambulance from the prison early Tuesday afternoon.
Cain says a doctor at Angola's R.E. Barrow Treatment Center diagnosed Cannon with stroke-like symptoms. He says Cannon was conscious.
Cannon won the 1959 Heisman Trophy after starring at LSU.
