Mandeville, La. - The U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration announced the arrest of a North Shore doctor in connection with several controlled substance violations. Below is a press release sent out Tuesday.
Drug Enforcement Administration Acting Special Agent in Charge Joseph W. Shepherd announced the arrest Dr. Brian Galofaro, 32 at his medical clinic on North Causeway Blvd. Galofaro was arrested without incident on Friday, February 15, 2013 on 42 counts of violation of Louisiana Revised Statute 40:971 – Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge. Subsequent to his arrest, Galofaro agreed to surrender his DEA registration privileges which will prevent him from prescribing any controlled substances.
Acting SAC Joseph Shepherd stated, "Pharmaceutical drugs are the new crack cocaine of our time. The collaborative law enforcement efforts of the DEA Tactical Diversion Squad, the Louisiana State Police, and the Louisiana Attorney General's Office continues to send an undeniable message to those who wish to operate and participate in the illegal possession and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs in the greater New Orleans area: your illegal activities are no longer welcomed here. The men and women of DEA remain steadfast to the citizens of Mandeville and in our commitment to this endeavor."
The charges and arrest are part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the New Orleans Tactical Diversion Squad of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Attorney General's Office and the 22nd Judicial District of Louisiana.
