Mandeville, La. -
A unanimous vote Tuesday night marks another roadblock for a Mandeville church pushing for a permit to build a bigger church. The church has been trying to build a bigger church for years, but has failed to win the city's approval.
The Mandeville Planning and Zoning board voted to uphold a decision by the city planner to reject a second application from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
The first application to build a new 16,00-sq. foot church was accepted initially, but the church was denied the permit over concerns about parking, drainage, traffic and more. A district judge upheld that decision and the case is now pending with the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal.
City attorneys say, until that case is resolved, city officials are not advised to accept another application from the church.
An attorney for the church says there is no decision at this point as to what the church's next step will be.
