Severe weather approaching the area

New Orleans, La. -

Strong thunderstorms are developing ahead of cold front. Watches and/or warnings may be required during the next several hours as damaging winds, dangerous lightning & flooding rains are possible.

A strong cold front is approaching our state from the west and will be arriving later tonight.

The worst of the weather should arrive between 5:00 p.m. and midnight. Both sides of the lake are very likely to see the potential for severe weather with the north shore most getting the heaviest rainfall. Two to four inches is possible in some places.

The front could stall and keep the heavy rain around through Friday.
