Slidell, La.- Firefighters responded to a large fire around early Saturday morning in the 400 block of Bilten Avenue in Old Towne Slidell.
When firefighters arrived on scene, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters immediately began spraying water with large hoses and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. However, the heat from the fire caused damage to the neighbor's fence, shed, greenhouse, truck and boat but firefighters were able to stop the fire from reaching the house.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.
"The home was undergoing major renovations and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The construction stage contributed to the rapid spread of the fire as there were no windows installed which allowed air to feed the flames," explains Fire Prevention Officer Mike Thiel. "Because the structure was unoccupied, the fire burned for an unknown amount of time until it grew to the point that neighbors noticed the smoke and flames, and called 911."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
No injuries have been reported.
