New Orleans, La - The New Orleans Police Department released images of a suspect wanted for the shooting an NOPD officer. The images are from the surveillance camera located in the store that the man robbed, prior to shooting the officer. The incident occurred Saturday, around 7:15 a.m., in the 1100 block of Poland Ave. Police say that the officer was shot as he was responding to the robbery.
The injured officer has been identified as John Passaro. Police say that Passaro is listed in serious condition at a local hospital.
Officers continue to search for the perpetrator, who fled immediately following the shooting. NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas describes the suspect as a black male in his 30s or 40s, about 5'7" and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with a hat and blue and white bandanna.
