Sydney, Australia- A drug bust in Australia tips the scales as the largest seizure of methamphetamine in that country's history.

An investigation that went on for months led police to nearly $450 million U.S. dollars worth of the illicit drug. Authorities seized more than half a ton of meth hidden in a shipment of cleaning products from China.

It started with a phone call from a tipster five months ago.

Police arrested three men in the operation -- an Australian, a Singaporean and a Hong Kong citizen -- and say they believe the bust has thrown a major international crime syndicate into disarray.

According to Australian Federal Police Commissioner Tony Negus, after confiscating the drugs, police replaced them with an inert substance and delivered them to a warehouse in Sydney.

When the suspects arrived at the warehouse yesterday and removed what they thought were the illicit drugs, police moved in and made the arrests.

Authorities expect to make more arrests in the case.
