FOX 8 received this news release from the Kenner Police Dept. Monday afternoon:

A Kenner man was arrested Friday (March 1, 2013) after he lost control of his vehicle, struck a stop sign, two vehicles, and pinned a pedestrian between a fence and a vehicle.

Henry Hutchinson, 55, who provided the home address of 26xx Fayette Street, Kenner, was arrested and charged with the crimes of Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (results pending), Reckless operation of a motor vehicle, Vehicle negligent injuring, Hit and run driving, No driver's license, No insurance, and Alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., (Friday, March 1, 2013), the Kenner Police Department responded to a traffic crash involving injury at the intersection of 27th & Salem Street, in Kenner. There officers learned that Hutchinson was the operator of a 1980 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on 27th Street. A vehicle ahead of Hutchinson stopped in front of a residence, at which time Hutchinson swerved losing control of his vehicle. Hutchinson's vehicle left the roadway and traveled onto an adjacent sidewalk, where his vehicle struck a stop sign at 27th & Salem Street. Hutchinson's vehicle then crossed the roadway where he proceeded off the opposite side of the roadway and into a driveway, where he crashed into a parked vehicle which was pushed into a residence and a second parked vehicle. A 55 year old female pedestrian, attempting to avoid being struck by Hutchinson's vehicle ran for safety behind the second parked vehicle. However, Hutchinson's vehicle momentum pushed the second parked vehicle into the pedestrian, pinning the pedestrian between the vehicle and a fence. After the series of crashes, Hutchinson attempted to flee the scene and reversed at a high rate of speed, traveling backwards across the roadway where he crashed into a tree.

Hutchinson was interviewed by Traffic Officer Patrick Gallagher. Hutchinson was found to be highly intoxicated and reeked of an unknown alcoholic beverage. His eyes were blood shot, glassy, and his speech was slurred. Hutchinson, who was apologetic, contributed the crash to his intoxication. Hutchinson advised he had consumed two half-pint bottles of wine and several cans of Bud light beer, including an open can found on the passenger side of his vehicle. Due to the crash, Hutchinson complained of head and knee pain and was transported to a local hospital, where blood samples were obtained and will be forwarded to the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory for analysis.

In addition, the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released due to injuries sustained in the traffic crash. The pedestrian sustained a bruised right hip and soreness to the back of her head.

Although Hutchinson bond was set at $7,800.00, he was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on Monday, March 4, 2013, due to overcrowding.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Traffic Officer Patrick Gallagher is in charge of the investigation.
