NOPD officers make arrest in June 2012 murder case

FOX 8 received the following news release from the New Orleans Police Department Monday:

Today Members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the United States Marshall's arrested 23-year-old Eric Shelbia at a residence in the 3600 block of Higgins Blvd, for fatally wounding 22-year-old Tony Locure. Officers found Locure shot multiple times at the intersection of Saint Anthony and North Prieur Street around 2:56pm, Monday June 04, 2012.

Detective Theophillus Kent was able to develop Shelbia as a Suspect through citizen involvement.  Shelbia was booked into Central Lockup and charged with One Count of Second Degree Murder and an open Criminal Court warrant for Armed Robbery.

Shelbia has been previously arrested for Aggravated Assault Discharging a Firearm, Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Auto Theft, Flight from an Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Trespass, and he is currently on Parole until September 2013 for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
