Police are investigating the death of a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run incident on Interstate 10 in New Orleans.
It happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on the Highrise Bridge, I-10 eastbound near Louisa Street.
"According
to witnesses the cyclist was travelling at a high rate of speed in the far left
lane on the Highrise, and for unknown reasons he lost control of the bike and
collided with an oncoming Tractor Trailer, who was traveling in the middle
lane," reads a news release from NOPD. "The Tractor Trailer struck the cyclist and never stopped. The victim was
ejected and thrown onto the roadway and pronounced dead on the scene.
I-10 East had been closed on the Highrise Bridge due to the incident and traffic was diverted to Louisa until shortly before 5:00 p.m.
NOPD has not reported the biker's identity, and we have not received information on a suspect vehicle.
