JP councilman wants refunds for drivers ticketed by red-light cameras

Jefferson Parish councilman Chris Roberts says he wants to refund an estimated $20 million collected from drivers who were ticketed by red light traffic cameras.

Roberts says he is prepared to bring the issue up at next week's parish council meeting on Wednesday.

Roberts points to an investigation involving Redflex, the company that had the contract for the red light cameras in Jefferson Parish.

The money has been sitting in an escrow account and Roberts doesn't think the issues will be resolved any time soon.

He points to a Chicago Tribune article Wednesday where Redflex admitted to taking bribes in Chicago relating to a contract there.  Redflex is reportedly looking into improprieties as it relates to contracts in Jefferson Parish.
