Hollywood, CA - New Orleans native Burnell Taylor reworked his original audition song to high praise for his Wednesday night semi-final performance on American Idol.

Taylor sang "I'm Here" from "The Color Purple" to a standing ovation from Idol Judge Keith Urban.

"Your voice is instantly recognizable. If I heard that voice on the radio I'd go, 'that's Burnell.' I loved it!" said Urban, describing what he called Taylor's musical "signature."

Nicki Minaj called Taylor "one of a kind" and said "I'm happy we found you."

Randy Jackson praised Taylor's ability to capture the audience's attention from the first note.

Votes from viewers will determine his fate and that of 19 other American Idol semi-finalists. Taylor and Laplace native Breanna Steer find out whether they received enough votes to move on with the top ten on the program Thursday night. American Idol airs on WVUE FOX 8.
