Slidell, La. - A school crossing guard was hospitalized Thursday morning after being struck by a woman who was dropping her kids off at school.
A spokesman with the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office says the guard was directing traffic for the school zone located in front of North Shore High School when the driver turned onto Panther Dr. from Hwy 190 East.
During the course of her turn, she struck the crossing guard with the front of her vehicle, sending him over the hood of her SUV.
The crossing guard was taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital. The driver, Jacqueline Smith, stated that she was blinded temporarily by the glare of the sun when she turned onto Panther Drive.
The Traffic Division's investigation concluded that the sun's glare is contributing factor to the crash.
Deputies did not cite the driver.
