Authorities capture escaped convict, Mitchell Manning


New Orleans, La - After searching for nearly 24 hours, Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputies have located and apprehended escaped convict, Mitchell Manning.

The following is a statement from Orleans Parish Sheriff, Marlin Gusman:

""Representatives of the Special Operations Division of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Service captured Mitchell Manning without incident at 10:50 a.m. this morning. Acting on a series of leads and information collected in the last 24 hours, Sheriff's Office investigators tracked inmate Manning to a hotel in Baton Rouge.

Inmate Manning, an African American male born Sept. 4, 1972, is in custody and facing additional charges of simple escape and criminal damage to property more than $500. Inmate Manning was booked originally into custody Jan. 11, 2013. He currently awaits trial on charges of damage to property, possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Prior to his Jan. 11 arrest, inmate Manning was free on a bond of $45,000, awaiting trial on a charge of distribution of cocaine.

In addition, the Sheriff's Office has arrested Tawaina White, an African American female born on May 20, 1982, on a charge of assisting in a simple escape. Inmate White admitted to providing money and a cell phone to inmate Manning. She also violated a Protective Order issued by the Court related to Manning's pending charge of domestic abuse battery.

The investigation of this incident is ongoing."
