NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - Iberia Parish detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was stabbed multiple times.
Capt. Ryan Turner tells The Advocate that the chief suspect is the woman's 13-year-old stepson.
Turner says the suspect was transported to St. James Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held on one count of second-degree murder.
He says authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect because he is a minor and the name of the victim, which is being withheld while relatives are notified, will be released by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office.
Turner said the 34-year-old woman was dead when deputies arrived at the home Tuesday night.
A motive for the slaying has not been released.
