NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Archbishop of New Orleans says he believes the new pope will help the Catholic Church "be a conscience to make sure that we include the poor and serve them in the name of Christ."
Archbishop Gregory Aymond notes that, as archbishop of Buenos Aries, the new Pope Francis lived in a small apartment, often took buses, and showed strong concern for the poor and for social justice.
Although the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio is 76, Aymond says he has a very youthful face and personality.
He said a 5:30 p.m. Mass would be held Wednesday to thank God for the new pope and to pray "that he will be able to support this important and trying ministry."
