Federal budget cuts could impact N.O. emergency preparedness

New Orleans, La. -

Emergency managers across the nation will experience budget cuts due to the loss of federal grant money.  In New Orleans, one job may have to be cut at the Office of Emergency Preparedness.

Such emergency managers help plan big events in New Orleans and provide emergency coordination among first responders during emergencies like hurricanes.

This week, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness advised parishes across the state of cuts to the grants which help pay for emergency preparedness offices.

Col. Jerry Sneed of the New Orleans office says it is possible they'll have to lay someone off from the five-person office.
