Three alarm fire destroys vacant home in Mid-City

New Orleans, La. - The NOFD battled a three-alarm fire Friday morning that destroyed a vacant building in Mid-City.

The fire started around 6:30am at the intersection of North Broad and Bienville Street.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the blaze had already extended to the second floor of the two story home.

As firefighters searched the building they found signs that possibly vagrants had been or could still be inside due to several mattresses and other items.

The fire burned caused a portion of second floor to collapse.

No firefighters were injured in the collapse and a search revealed no vagrants were in the building.

The building had been vacant since hurricane Katrina and was scheduled for demolition.
