FOX 8 received this news release from the Covington Police Dept. Friday afternoon:
At
approximately 4:00 AM on Sunday Morning, January 27, 2013 the Covington Police
Department was contacted by the staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. The
hospital staff told officers that they were treating a patient for a gunshot wound,
and the patient stated he had been shot in Covington.
Upon
arrival at the hospital Officers met with the victim who stated he had been
driving his maroon colored 1998 Chevy Lumina on North Filmore St. at approximately
3:30 AM. When he observed two black males walk towards his vehicle and begin
firing a handgun.
The
victim's vehicle was struck and one of the bullets went through the car and
into his leg. When asked to describe the shooters all he could remember was
that both were young, probably teenagers, one was tall and one was short.
As
a result of the plea for help from citizens on January 27, 2013, Covington
Police Investigators were able to make an arrest in the case on Friday, March
15, 2013. A 16 year old juvenile in custody for another attempted murder was
arrested for the incident after a month and a half investigation. The juvenile
was taken from Florida Parishes Detention Center, booked at the Covington
Police Department, and returned to the center.
As
a result of this incident he was charged with the following additional charges:

Illegal Discharge of a Weapon
This
case is still not closed; another suspect in the shooting is still at large.
Detectives are gathering evidence at this time to make the second arrest.
