UNO to offer courses in gaming

Updated:

New Orleans, La.-Growing job opportunities in video game development prompts the University of New Orleans to offer game design and programming courses to students.

The university's curriculum committee approved the computer science department's new concentration.

The school will offer both introductory and advanced courses in game development and mobile application programming.

In recent years, gaming developers and companies such as Gameloft and Touch Studios moved into New Orleans.

Electronic Arts which created Madden Football also opened a testing facility in Baton Rouge last year.

The university says taken together with courses in introductory and advanced computer graphics and core programming coursework, these new offerings form the foundation of a new concentration, aimed at preparing students for productive careers in game development.
