Metairie, LA -- St. Patrick's Day is the greenest time of the year.
In Metairie, parade goers packed the streets all decked out in green for the Annual Metairie Road St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Thousands lined up early to watch the parade travel down its traditional Metairie Road route from Severn to Metairie Road, to get a good spot.
The annual parade started back 1971.
It featured 82 units including floats and truck-floats.
Riders tossed traditional carnival beads, cups, and trinkets, as well as cabbage and other vegetables.
If you don't want to spend all your time at the parade, you could sneak away to a block party. Robert and Michelle Helmke have hosted their traditional St. Patrick's Day party, just steps away from the Metairie parade.
"Oh, the Helmke house, that's my in-laws they have a blast, I'd say about 75 people are there at one time, it's unreal, a lot of food, everything, all day affair, says parade goer, Will Beck of Metairie.
