Baker man arrested in roofing scam

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 24-year-old Baker man accused of defrauding several elderly people in a roofing scam has been arrested by Baton Rouge police.

Lt. Don Kelly tells The Advocate Brandon Ferguson was arrested at his home Wednesday night and booked with three counts of theft of assets of an aged person and one count of felony theft.

Kelly says Ferguson and unknown accomplices contacted elderly victims over the past month and told them they needed roof repairs or a protective coating. He says Ferguson then quoted them a low price and intimidated the victims into paying significantly more than the amount quoted once the 'work' was completed.

In most cases, Kelly says the work consisted of simply spraying paint on the roof.
It was unclear whether Ferguson has an attorney.
