Homicide
Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of an unidentified male.
The victim was found just before 6pm near railroad tracks at the intersection
of Prentiss and Providence Place. The name of the victim is being
withheld pending notification of family members.
A
concerned citizen in the area thought he heard the sound of fireworks. The
citizen discovered the victim lying face down moments later. The citizens alerted
off duty NOPD Officer Melvin Hunter who lives nearby. Officer Hunter arrived on
the scene and found the unresponsive victim to be suffering from multiple
gunshot wounds. The victim was shot several times and was pronounced dead on
the scene.
Investigators
are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify
the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
Homicide
Detective Matthew Morrison is in charge of the investigation.
