Hammond orders demolition for 10 structures

Updated:

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The City Council has issued condemnation and demolition orders on 10 structures while allowing a single house to be restored.

The Advocate reports that among properties being torn down is a former office building at 1110 Morris Ave., one of the main approaches to downtown Hammond. A tree fell on the building during Hurricane Isaac and caused considerable damage.

Attorney Carlie White, representing the owners, said they would handle demolition of the structure.

The council granted Patricia George, owner of a house at 911 Mooney Ave., 90 days to try to salvage the structure, which also was heavily damaged when a tree fell on it.
