Kenner to repair gyms damaged by Katrina

KENNER, La. (AP) - After more than seven years of negotiations, Kenner officials are ready to begin an overhaul of flooring city gymnasiums damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The Advocate reports the City Council will spend more than $354,000 on replacement flooring for five city gyms.

The money is coming from federal payments the city received for properties damaged by the hurricane in August 2005.

Recreation Director Ken Marroccoli said the project will include repairs at the Woodlake Gymnasium, Woodward Gymnasium, Muss Bertolino Gymnasium, Butch Duhe Gymnasium and Lincoln Manor Gymnasium.

Marroccoli expects the work to be completed in May.
