Train derails in Kenner

A train carrying coal derailed in Kenner Monday afternoon.  Authorities report no injuries and no chemicals or other hazardous items are involved in the wreck.

FOX 8 received this news release from the City of Kenner Monday afternoon:

At approximately 4:00 PM CST today, Kenner officials reported a Canadian National train derailed in the vicinity of Centanni, Salvador, Morey and Farm roads in south Kenner.  Kenner Police and Fire Departments are investigating the situation.  Mayor Yenni is also inspecting the scene. 

Canadian National has performed their standard incident notification procedures; their teams are also responding to the scene to begin evaluating the situation and to start an investigation and clean up. There have been no reported injuries; the train was carrying coal and no hazardous materials are involved in this incident. 

City officials are requesting that citizens avoid the area as the situation is examined.  Streets are blocked at Farm at Kenner Ave. and Coleman at Kenner Ave.
