Madisonville, La. - People in Madisonville plan to protest a new law forcing some home and business owners to pay higher flood insurance rates.

The federal subsidy on flood insurance has gone away because of the federal Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act. The law could force nearly half a million policy holders to pay higher, market rates.

Madisonville Mayor Peter Gitz worries his area will be hit harder than most towns because most of Madisonville is in a flood plain.

New preliminary FEMA flood maps will help some people with their insurance bills. It could be months before the maps are finalized.
