Bayou Corne, La. - People with homes near the expanding sinkhole in Assumption Parish hope an inspection process means they will get full value for their property.

The owners of 150 homes near Bayou Corne are being bought out by Texas Brine. That's the company which owns the salt cavern that Assumption Parish officials say caused the sinkhole.

This week inspectors began the first step of the buyout process.

Once inspections are complete, the properties will be appraised and buyout offers will follow.

One family that has lived in the area for more than 20 years say they hate to leave.

A spokesperson for Texas Brine says those eligible for buyouts should expect to know the value of their settlement in about 30 days.
