Baton Rouge, La.- The LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the hiring of F. King Alexander to serve as President of the LSU System and Chancellor of LSU. The two positions have been combined under the title of LSU President.
Alexander comes to LSU from California State University Long Beach where he has been the president since 2006.
In a news release from LSU, Alexander says,"My tenure as president of Cal State Long Beach has prepared me to assume the role as the head of the Louisiana State University system. The challenges facing LSU are similar to those in California and elsewhere. Universities throughout the nation are struggling to serve more students while managing declining state revenues. At the same time, leaders in the field of higher education know the burden is on us to demonstrate that the public's money is well spent."
Alexander will begin his position at LSU in July.
He replaces William Jenkins, who came out of retirement to serve as interim LSU System President and Chancellor.
